Aves Press is now primarily a journal publisher in the field of zoology. It seeks to fill specific niches with e-journals that are peer-reviewed. We currently publish two journals. Our first publication, Zoological Bibliography, initially published in 2010 both in print and in electronic form, changed to solely an e-publication with the start of volume 3 in 2014. Conceived as an occasional publication, papers are published as soon as they become available and have been subject to careful peer-review; they are compiled into volumes each with a minimum of 160 pages.
A second journal, Avian Systematics, was conceived in 2022 as an outlet for detailing new knowledge impacting on nomenclature and taxonomy of birds to facilitate ongoing revisions of global avian checklists following the guidelines of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The first two volumes appeared under the Trust for Avian Systematics imprint; subsequently publication has been transferred to Aves Press.
Both Aves Press journals carry an on-line ISSN and are archived by the British Library. Papers and any nomenclatural acts are registered with ZooBank as required by the revised ICZN Code (2012). All articles are published Open Access as PDFs available from the Journal page. Guidelines for authors are published on the Journal’s page. Copyright in the final product belongs to Aves Press but copyright in the text and any images belongs to the authors who licence their work to us to publish under the appropriate Creative Commons licence.
Aves Press will also consider publishing other e-periodicals, not just about birds but always dealing with zoology and as a service to zoology. Proposals for additional titles are welcome. Please use the Contact Us page to explain your idea and suggest at least two editorial board members and an honorary editor.
